Notes:
We began to understand the relationship between standing crop and rate of
pollination after monitoring bloom and pollination in commercial seed fields
over the season.
We counted buds, open flowers, tripped flowers and bracts each week. Bracts
are small hairs at the base of each flower. If all flowers and pods are
removed from a raceme stem, the bracts can be counted to determine how many
flowers bloomed on the raceme.
