The model, and the economic analysis based on it does not take into account
the potential increased loss to lygus bugs and other pests the longer it takes
to pollinate the alfalfa crop. Nor does it consider the costs of controlling
increased pests during this time, including the risk of killing more bees. In
the future the impact of lygus bugs on seed yield should be incorporated into
the model to better understand the alleged advantage of rapid pollination for
minimizing lygus damage. This was an idea first suggested by Mayer and
