Hypothesis:
Seed yield per pod is reduced when flower standing crop is high and bees
move maximally within a plant.
Slide 4 of 31
Notes:
Standing crop here refers to the number of flowers open at a given moment in
time. It is a balance between the number of flowers coming into bloom, and
the number that are wilting because they have been pollinated or are old.
Bees are more likely to move between flowers on a single plant when flower
standing crop is high . This would be the case initially, if bee emergence
corresponds with peak bloom as opposed to 10% bloom. As bee populations
start to increase, the first bees to forage should have an abundance of
bloom.
