To estimate the impact, we did a computer simulation of bee behavior, using
the data that we’d collected in the field and greenhouse.
The simulation consisted of bouts of 250 flower visits on hypothetical racemes
with number of open flowers on each raceme randomly generated based on the
empirical distributions of flowers per raceme that we measured in the field. We used a 56% movement rule to randomly generate the number of flowers visited
per raceme and per plant, and then counted up the number of flowers visited
per plant.
